Did you know that when you wake up your first meal of the day should be a warm one? Why you probably are asking. Eating a cold breakfast will slow down your digestive system for the rest of the day. The extra energy your body uses to digest a cold meal for you means less energy for your body to perform throughout the day. I challenge you to eat this oatmeal for the entire week. Eat everyday for a week. See how you feel and if you notice a difference. I think you will be presently surprised.
I make this usually on a Sunday night. I then start to eat it Mon-Sat and its enough for 6 days for me. I add a little milk after I warm it back up and its absolutely perfect and delicious.
preheat oven to 350
my ingredients and brand favorites
4 c. liquids. I use 2 cups of fat-free Oberweiss milk and 2 cups water. You can use 4 cups of milk if you prefer or 4 cups of water if your low on milk.
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 cups chopped apples (I love honey crisp)
2 cups oats
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional and not needed)
1 tsp. cinnamon (I use a heaping one)
1 tsp. vanilla (I love the paste and you can get it at William Sonoma)
In a large glass bowl add the liquids (4 cups of your choice), and the brown sugar. Microwave for 5 minutes. Stir and set aside.
In a 9×13 baking stone (Pampered Chef my preferred dish, or a 9×13 glass dish-make sure to spray before, add the oats, apples, nuts, cinnamon, sprinkle some flax & chia and add vanilla. Pour the hot liquid over and stir.
bake in oven for 30-45 minutes.
Scoop out in a shallow bowl and pour milk over and enjoy.
